COMMUNITY APPROACHES TO CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH: PATHWAYS TO HEART HEALTH (CATCH-PATH) (2008-2013) |
|
Goals & Objectives
This is a basic research effort conducted with support from the National Institute for Minority Health and Health Disparities (1 R24 MD001619-04). CATCH-PATH builds on the CATCH community assessment and planning process.
The aims of the project are to:
- Implement and evaluate a multilevel community based participatory research intervention to increase physical activity in Detroit. The multilevel intervention includes:
- walking groups to promote active living; and
- leadership development, community action, and policy level change to enhance neighborhood environments that support and sustain active living.
- Maintain and evaluate the Healthy Environment Partnership, engaging members of the partnership in providing scientific and community oversight for all aspects of the project.
- Disseminate results and develop a plan for sharing research findings broadly to assure translation of results into programmatic and policy efforts to improve heart health in Detroit.
Activities
- Walking Groups lead by community members trained as Community Health Promoters (2009-2013);
- Capacity building and technical assistance for community members and organization representatives who wish to develop and support walking groups (2010-2013);
- Mini-grant funds for community groups working to enhance neighborhood environments to promote active living (2010-2013); and
- Information development and dissemination to policy and decision makers about ways to promote built environments conducive to physical activity
WYHH now has a blog where you are able to find all the information you need about our walking groups and about how they can help you improve your health and the health of your community. Vist the blog at: www.wyhh.wordpress.com
